Falling in Love with Decor Home Tour

Hi friend! Welcome to our Valentine’s Day home tour. If you’re just coming from Carly’s site lifeoncountrypinesfarm.com welcome! I’m sure you were blown away by Carly’s beautiful decor. I’m glad you’re here! I’ve got lots of Valentine’s Day goodness to share with you.

I love Valentine’s Day! It’s a time to celebrate all of the loved one’s in your life. Now that we have our son, it’s just another day for us as parents but it’s fun to celebrate with him. Keep reading to find out what our super romantic πŸ˜‰ V-Day plans are this year.

Alright, let’s get started with the tour. Hopefully you’ve got a cup of coffee or glass of wine (I don’t judge!) and are cuddled up under a fuzzy blanket. We spend most of our time in our kitchen/living room/dining room, so that’s what I decorated for Valentine’s Day this year. Since this decor stays up for such a short time, unlike the Christmas decor that I keep out for months, I really focused on just a few spaces.

The Kitchen

The main area in my kitchen that I decorated this year is my set of open shelves. I love styling these babies. We built them this past Fall, you can find a tutorial on them here. I look forward to restyling these shelves for every new holiday and season.

I kind of gave myself a fun challenge with these shelves. My goal was to style them using only pieces I already had in my home, so I shopped my house! Y’all, it was so much fun and a great creative challenge for me. I went searching around my home and came back with a lot of creamy neutrals and then pops of pink.

Okay, I lied earlier. I did score these Rae Dunn canisters this year. Once I got the canisters, I ended up restyling the shelves a little bit. They were too perfect to pass up and a great place to hide candy from my son and husband. It’s every man for himself around here when it comes to candy. My favorites are Dove peanut butter chocolates. They’re kind of hard to find so when I get my hands on a few bags, they’re like gold to me! While we’re on the topic of my favorite things, this is my current favorite candle. It’s an all natural soy candle that’s hand poured by one of my friends Kelli in Pittsburgh, PA. I love being able to support small businesses and know the names of the people who are creating products that I love. She has so many wonderful scents. This sweet copper candle is definitely my favorite right now. It’s warm and cozy; perfect for these dreary Winter days. I used a few of my favorite cookbooks in the shelves as well. I’m a huge Chrissy Teigen fan and her cookbook is phenomenal. For Valentine’s Day this year, we’re doing breakfast for dinner (one of our favorite things) and making her dutch baby pancakes. They’re incredible and buttery and basically heaven on a plate. We’ll probably end our night with watching Cars for the hundredth time and maybe an episode of Outlander, if we’re not too tired after we put our little guy to sleep. Oh how times have changed…but I wouldn’t have it any other way.The last festive element in my kitchen is my letter board. It’s fun to play around with these boards and leave a sweet note to your husband, or a passive aggressive one about dirty dishes, depending on the day. To celebrate all things love, I looked up how to say I love you in a bunch of different languages. Ya tebya liubliu, for instance is I love you in Russian. Look, you probably learned something today here on the blog. You’re welcome πŸ™‚

The Dining Room

I took Valentine’s Day as a reason to add lots of pops of pink to our home. Surprisingly, my husband doesn’t seem to hate it! For my Valentine’s tablescape I found some really cute heart-shaped place mats in Target’s dollar section. I layered my favorite white scalloped plates from IKEA on top and my go-to white linen napkins. After the holidays, I used some of my Christmas money to buy this gorgeous dough bowl that I’ve been pining over for the past few months. It’s so natural and gorgeous and it’s a great statement piece. I grabbed a bunch of my spring flowers I had laying around and layered them in the bowl with a few candles in the center. Easy, pretty, and I don’t have to remember to water them.

Layering a bunch of different patterns and textures is one of my favorite things to do designwise. I love the look of our wood table against the herringbone runner, with the pop of pink from the place mats, and finally the clean white plates on top. It’s not over the top or fancy but it’s functional for our family.

My other favorite piece to style in my home is my mug rack. I have a serious coffee mug obsession/addiction/problem…call it what you will. I’ve always loved coffee mugs but since I’ve started collecting Rae Dunn, the amount of mugs in my home has increased quite a bit. I picked out a few of my favorite love-themed mugs, like my Mr. and Mrs. mugs and put them up. That cute pennant banner was another Target dollar section find. I love decorating my mug rack but since I change it so frequently, I don’t want to spend much on decor for it. My sweet sister has an amazing TJ Maxx near her that always has Rae Dunn so she’s constantly sending me pictures and snagging me all kinds of great finds. She found my Bae mug and that adorable ‘kiss like you mean it’ heart plate. The last space I decorated in my dining room was my mantle. I kept it surprisingly very simple. I’ll probably add more to it for Spring but the simplicity worked great with the rest of my decor in the space. I took a bunch of eucalyptus garlands and wove them together to make them fuller. Then I took a bunch on floral stems I had lying around and place them throughout the eucalyptus. The last details to be added were the bigger eucalyptus leaves and the sprigs of lambs ear. The wooden heart garland was the last of my great Target dollar section finds. I’ve seen people do some really cute things with theirs, like painting and distressing the hearts. I love that idea but I was too lazy this year to put that kind of effort in. The look of greenery against woods and whites will never get old to me. The pop of pink from the flower buds and then the cool mint color of the lambs ear are so beautiful and calming to me. I smile every time I walk into my kitchen and see this mantle arrangement. What do you think? Are you a lover of having greenery in decor too?

The Living Room

The goal for the living room was total comfort and coziness. If you’ve read my blog posts before, then you know I have a true love of pillow covers. To me, being able to simply change out a cover and not have a closet full of throw pillows just makes more sense. They’re also a really cost effective way of changing out your decor. My favorite place to go to for pillow covers is Amazon. Surprise, surprise.

All of the pillows on my couch have covers on them. It’s a great way to change out your decor and with a messy toddler in my house, it’s nice to be able to throw the covers in the wash. Our family is known for laying on the floor to watch TV. Not sure if that’s normal or not. In an attempt to make the floor situation comfier, I added the white and gray floor cushion to our living room “seating.” Boy has that thing gotten it’s use and it’s holding up great! Our little guy loves to lay on it with one of us and watch a show before bed time.

The last details I change out frequently are our throw blankets. Writing this, I”m realizing our family has quite a few odd habits. I’m known for walking around the house wrapped up in a blanket. My current favorites are the pink and white knitted ones pictured above. We’re all about the comfort over here. Give us all the fuzzy blankets, cozy pillows, and hot cups of coffee. If you can’t be comfortable at home, where can ya be?
