Our Homes for the Holidays- 2017 Christmas Tour
Hi friends! Thanks for joining me on this tour of my home for the holidays. I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of this ‘Our Homes for the Holidays’ blog hop with 17 other very talented ladies. That’s 18 homes decked out for the holidays, all filled with Christmas cheer and gorgeous decor!
If you’re just coming from Kirsten over at tribeofburton.com welcome! I’m so happy to have you. I’m sure you had a wonderful time over on Kirsten’s site looking at all of her beautiful Christmas decor. She’s such a talented designer and a sweet friend of mine.
Today I’m sharing several rooms with you full of Christmas goodness. I’ll be taking you on a walk through my dining room, living room, hallway, front room, and my master bedroom. Grab a cup of coffee or hot cocoa and let’s get going!
Dining Room & Mantel
For Christmas, I decided to stick with my overall colors of white, black, and buffalo check. Yep, I just decided that buffalo check is a color. I always try to add some greenery, whether real or faux, into my decor. I feel like it grounds the space and adds something special.
Our mantel is probably my favorite thing in our home. Our mantel is a chunky, reclaimed wood beam against white brick, with endless decorating possibilities. I always look forward to styling it for every new season and holiday.I gathered up all of our Christmas books and put them in this bin by the fireplace. We read a few of them every night before bed. My current favorite is Olive, the Other Reindeer!
For my table, I gave myself a challenge to use a lot of what I already had for my Christmas tablescape. The table runner is actually a blanket scarf of mine! I loved the plaid and the rich colors it has in it. I paired it with some fresh garland from Trader Joe’s and a set of mercury glass candle stick holders, which are housing our Advent candles.
The napkin rings are pieces of boxwood garland and gift tags I found in Target’s dollar section. I love the ‘joy’ tags! I did an in-depth post on all aspects of my tablescape last week, you can find it here.
A close second favorite to my mantel is the mug rack that hangs on the wall right beside it! I have so much fun decorating this guy and love showing off my small but mighty collection of Rae Dunn mugs. I’ve been able to find a few Christmas mugs and I love how they add Christmas vibes, while still being functional. They hold my precious coffee after all!
I kept my decor pretty simple in the living room. I decided to let our tree be the star of the show but I did add a few touches to the couch and media center.
Bottle brush trees and a buffalo check garland make our media center more festive. The December 25 pillow is actually a gift sack! It fit my pillow perfectly and it was only three dollars. The other pillow covers are from Amazon. I’m a big fan of using pillow covers so I can easily change my decor without the hassle of storing lots of pillows. We set out some cookies for Santa since he visits us every night for Advent. Santa does a lot of cookie eating at our house 😉
I kept our tree very simple this year; which is definitely unlike me. I stuck with silvers and white with pine cones throughout. I love wrapping our presents using kraft paper and then adding decorative tape, bows, and tags. We did get our son Lightning McQueen paper though. You have to make the toddler happy!
This is the hallway that run from our kitchen and living room to the front rooms of our house. Since it’s a very frequently walked through space, I thought it deserved some Christmas cheer. I created this gallery wall with the idea of changing out the prints every holiday/season. You can see my Fall gallery wall here. For Christmas, I was inspired by sheet music and knew I wanted to take a Christmas song and put it on my gallery wall. It was definitely a labor of love but I love the result! I’ll have a blog post up on it next week.
I also have a few of my beloved Nutcrackers displayed and my slowly growing collection of angels. My grandmother gifts us a new one every year. I can’t wait to have a display as impressive as my mom’s someday.
The front room doesn’t get a ton of use but I wanted to change that for this Christmas season. I decided to make this a pretty kid friendly space and included a lot of my son’s favorite things. I put up one of my 6-foot flocked trees from Walmart and made this tree the home for all of our special ornaments.
Around the bottom of the tree is a Coast Guard train set my son received for his birthday last year. Boy does he love to sit on the couch and watch the ‘choo choo’ go round and round.
I kept the walls pretty simple with this cute reindeer print I got from MyHappyWalls and a Merry Farmhouse Christmas sign I found at TJ Maxx.
The last fun thing in this space is my son’s Advent calendar. My grandma gets the kids one every year and this year we got an Olive calendar from Olive, the Other Reindeer. You can get the book and matching Advent calendar on Amazon! He loves opening the tabs each day and playing with the paper figurines.
I love bringing Christmas cheer into bedrooms. I remember the first time I was allowed to have a mini Christmas tree in my room, decorated with ornaments I had picked out myself. My tree may have gotten a little bigger but the thrill of decorating it is still there. I brought a few of my nutcrackers up stairs with me and dressed up our tv with some simple garland.
I don’t have any Christmas sheets or duvets (I wish!) so a fun, little pillow does the trick. To add a focal point above our bed, I hung up some paper stars. This is another tradition from my mom. I love these stars, they’re so whimsical and definitely make the space feel cozy.
A cute Christmas tree farm sign on my nightstand and a sweet smelling candle complete the space.
